- Plan your route. Don’t just rely on your maps app! Make sure to look at routes ahead of time and plan around road construction and potential weather hazards. Planning ahead also lets you include some fun stops instead of just stopping at whatever rest area or gas station you happen upon. Sometimes you can choose a route that takes you by a fun roadside attraction, or you can stop and try a great restaurant in a town along the way that you probably wouldn’t normally visit.
- Bring entertainment. If you have kids, you will definitely need to pack some fun things to do in the car. Even adults get bored on long car rides, so load up some great holiday music or a few interesting podcasts to listen to on your drive.
- Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy! This is the most important holiday preparation you can do before embarking on a road trip. Give your car a once-over and make any repairs you’ve been putting off before you hit the road.
