With the second Atlanta-area “snowpocalypse” since Thanksgiving, there’s no question that winter is here with a vengeance. Is your car ready? Wintery conditions mean you need to take special care of your vehicles, so make sure you follow these tips this year:
- Lights. Between the earlier sunset and the tendency for the weather to be overcast, you’ll be using your lights more than usual. If they’re old, weak, or burned out, you could find yourself in real trouble and possibly facing a traffic ticket.
- Batteries. The cold makes it harder for batteries to operate, so take care of yours before it strands you somewhere. Get it tested, especially if it’s been a few years. If your car battery is weak, consider replacing it before it becomes a problem.
- Coolant/Antifreeze. The reason this is important is right there in the name! Antifreeze keeps your engine from, well, freezing. A 50/50 mix of coolant and water will give you a good temperature and save you a little bit of money as well. Check your car for levels and leaks.
- Tires! This is an important thing to be aware of all the time, but especially in the winter, when the cold can really mess with your tire pressure. Check out our tire tips and advice here.
